Transport to the Centre
Car
For guests travelling into Portsmouth we are easily accessible by road. The M275 leads straight into the heart of the city and then follow the brown signs for 'Historic Waterfront'. Queen Street is the main road that leads down to the Historic Dockyard.
Train
Our nearest train station is Portsmouth Harbour - a simple 5 minute walk from the John Pounds Centre - with good connections to London and the West.
Walking
A good form of exercise that causes no polution and its free. A buggy store is located on the first floor next to the crèche for people walking with children to use this facility.
Cycling
Portsmouth City Council produces a free map of cycle routes. If one is not available in the centre reception, you can telephone 02392 8133 92 / 834092 or visit www.portsmouth.gov.uk and click on Residents, Getting Around, Cycling for a copy.There are 30 bicycle-parking spaces in the courtyard near the Medical Centre.
Bus
Portsmouth has an extensive network of bus routes, with 95% of Portsmouth households situated within a five-minute walk of a bus route. Very few daytime journeys cannot be made by bus.
Access to the John Pounds Centre by bus is extremely good, with 30 different routes from all over the city stopping close by.

Car Parking
Reception staff will be pleased to advise you on parking options if you ring in advance.
We have 2 designated disabled parking spaces.
To park in the Portsea area 12 and 24 hour parking permit can be purchased in the centre at the housing office and library. (80p - 12hrs £1.60 - 24 hrs).
(Blue Badge holders may park without restriction within these areas).
12 hour Parking permits can be bought from the library within the Centre for 80p. This allows you to park within the Portsea area. PLEASE NOTE THE LIBRARY HOURS VARY EVERYDAY SO PLEASE CALL US TO CHECK BEFORE YOU ARRIVE!
There is no on-site car parking for the centre but lots of public car parking is within 5 minutes walking distance.
Nearby car parks, with varying charges (free for Blue Badge holders), are located in:
- Admiral Quarter - 24 hour
- Havant Street . Pay & Display that operates 7 days a week, 7am - 7pm.
- Gunwharf Quays. Open 24hrs. Charged per hour.
- At off-peak times (evenings, weekends and holidays) we have an arrangement with the University of Portsmouth that enables Centre visitors to use their nearby car park. These are located in St. James's Street (Portland Car Park). Ask reception for details of restrictions/availability.
